“How big should it be?” is usually the second question after price, and the honest answer is: it depends where it is going. Here is how we size garlands, with the measurements we use most.
Start with the spot, not the number
Measure the space the garland will sit in: the width of the mantelpiece, the length of the table, the height of the wall behind the cake. A garland looks best when it fills roughly two-thirds of its backdrop, so a 3 m wall suits a 2 m demi-arch, not a 3 m one.
Our most common sizes
- 1.5 m: table garland, mantelpiece or small dessert table.
- 2–2.5 m: demi-arch on a sailboard, the classic birthday and baby shower backdrop.
- 3–4 m: full backdrop wall, double sailboard or shimmer wall with garland both sides.
- 5 m+: staircases, venue entrances, bar fronts and corporate installs.
Height matters as much as length
A demi-arch that sweeps up to 1.8 m looks dramatic in photos because it frames people. A garland lying flat along a table reads as 1 m even if it is 2 m long. Tell us how you want it to sit and we will size it to look right, not just to hit a number.
Balloon sizes inside the garland
Organic garlands mix 5-inch, 11-inch, 18-inch and sometimes 24-inch or 36-inch balloons. More large balloons make a garland feel fuller for its length; more small balloons make it feel detailed and delicate. We adjust the mix to your style and budget.
Send us a photo
The quickest way to get the size right is to send us a photo of the space with rough measurements. We will come back with a suggested size and a quote the same day. Get in touch or read about our balloon garlands.
